I recently have had people say to me, “When I retire, I’ll be able to do……….” They are putting off doing things because they feel they do not have the time now, or enough money, or, or, or. They are focused on a particular time when they perceive life will be better.
I believe we let this type of thinking infect us in our work life as well. When the economy improves business will be better. After the next election, things will be better. There won’t be any jobs until the kids return to school. I can’t get a better job until I get more education. When the business gets bigger we can approach that potential client. We place limitations on ourselves and this can affect the work we do day to day.
There is nothing wrong with having a goal in life or business, but we need to learn to do our Great Work on the way there. Each step we take is preparation for the destination and we need to ensure we have the attitude and confidence to make it happen for us, not sit back and watch others do it.
Don’t put life on hold and enjoy the journey because life has a way of moving the goal posts!
