Pay it Forward

Pay it Forward Nanaimo has been operating for about 4 months now with great success!  The concept is simple – attend the event held at a local watering hole, put $10 in one container and your name in another and network with the others in attendance.

After about an hour a couple of names are drawn from the container and they receive  between $150 and $250 which they have to pay forward in the community, then report on what they did at the next monthly meeting. The stories are heartwarming with the difference they were able to make in the community.

Many times when I ask businesses what they do to support the community they say they don’t simply want to give prizes to a golf tournament or support a sports team.  While these are worthwhile and certainly support the community, they would sooner make a difference to those who are marginalized and in serious need of supports.

What better way to support the community than to encourage your employees to attend this monthly event wearing a company t-shirt for recognition.  Better yet, attend yourself and set an example of your values and ethics!

Having been the recipient at a Pay it Forward Nanaimo event, there is nothing better for the heart than to see the gratitude of the recipients and know you have made a difference.  Next event in Nanaimo is July 14th at the Bistro Pub.  Will I see you there?

As always, feel free to share this post giving credit to the author.
