I wanted to write a blog on resolutions but, as we all know, they have a life expectancy of about a month and expire like gym memberships. If we really are serious about change in our lives, we are the only ones who can create, initiate, and monitor that change.
Change will happen in our lives with or without us. We can lead the change or we can wonder what happened. If we are serious about wanting our lives to take a different path than the one we are on, then it must begin within. It doesn’t matter if it is our personal life or our career, we need to look inward to see if we have enough clarity to create a new path.
If you know you want change but are not sure of direction or the steps involved, seek help. Find yourself a career coach or life coach who will give you the tools to successfully move forward. See our website at www.lrassess.com for more details.
The New Year gives us a clean canvas, and we are the artist. We get to choose what we will allow to influence the rendering. Some of that influence we cannot control, but we can control our reaction to it. In our core, we have a set of values. We need to know them well and not compromise.
For my part, I am going to work at:
- Practicing kindness – everyone is facing something, be more understanding.
- Listening to understand – forming opinions and answering after, not during, conversations.
- Being kinder to my body – it is no longer young and I need to respect that more if it is to carry me around in the future.
It is not that I don’t do these things now, I just need to be more aware of it. Also, the list will get bigger as I journey through the year, painting my canvas as I go.
Whether 2017 will be the year of major change for you, or incrementally small changes, they must come from within and become part of who you are. Start your canvas today.
